The Viburnum tinus is a genus from the Adoxaceae family and native to the Mediterranean area of Europe and North Africa. The Viburnum tinus is commonly named laurustinus.
The laurustinus is an asset to your garden because it blooms at the moment that hardly anything blooms. The Viburnum tinus blooms for a long time, it is an evergreen and on top of it all the flowers are fragrant.
The shrub is quite hardy. With severe frost some of the branches may die. You can cut the dead branches away and it will form new branches in spring. You can avoid damage by frost by positioning the Viburnum tinus in a spot that shelters it from the cold wind.
The laurustinus will grow up to about 3 metres high and wide. You can easily prune it to shape it the way you like.
The Viburnum tinus has dark green glossy leaves. The flowers are either completely white or have a touch of pink. That depends on the cultivar. This is the same with the flower buds. Those can vary from pink to green. After the bloom dark blue to black berries are formed.
