Micrantha is Latin and means small flowers.
The Heuchera micrantha 'Palace Purple' is a nice addition to your garden because of the beautiful colour of the leaves. The shiny leaves are purplish red and reach a height of about 12 inches (30 cm). If the leaves receive more sun then they will grow higher and larger than with less sunlight. During summer the leaves turn greener.
The stems of the flowers of the coral bells are about 24 inches (60 cm) high and rise above the foliage with panicles of white flowers that attract bees and bumblebees. The leafless flower stems are sturdy and stay upright.
This coral bells spreads through seed, but since the seedlings are easily removed this is not a problem. The older plants develop woody bases. I pull off the older parts of the plant and stick them in the ground. With some extra water they will grow further. You can also dig up the plant and put it back a little deeper into the ground. You can dig up the seedlings and replant them elsewhere if they grow in an unwanted spot. The best period for transplanting is early spring.
With some morning sun the leaves get a nicer colour. The alumroot prefers well-drained soil and is reasonably drought resistant and salt tolerant. This coral bells tolerates full sun but only when the soil is moist enough.
The Heuchera micrantha 'Palace Purple' is very suitable for edges, borders and rock gardens.
